Long holiday

Last weekend was the beginning of a long holiday in Malaysia and Singapore. It was due to a public holiday on Monday and Tuesday in both countries. So in the last five days, there was a lot of celebrating, feasting and giving in my own so-called life.On Saturday, my husband and I attended his schoolmate’s wedding in Puchong. Wearing matching light blue outfits, we arrived there early not wanting to miss the reception ceremony. Once we finished our meal, we found the groom getting his final touchups and took a couple of pictures of our celebrated friend. After that, the groom and his entourage paraded towards their new family’s place. When the bride came out to welcome them, my first thought was: she is slim and I would love to be one now. Anyhow Gorock, my husband and I would like to extend our best wishes on your wedding and may your love be forever lasting. We hope to see you again and more at futsal practice, alright?Abi woke up on Sunday morning asking if I wanted to go to IKEA. Okay, which crazy wife would say no when her husband questioned her such? Not me, definitely! But first, we had breakfast at Nasi Lemak Cikgu. I could not recall when we last ate there. Not much had changed, though.

While waiting for the IKEA showroom to open, we had coffee at its restaurant. Then, it was shopping time! Abi always felt like buying a wooden chair for our balcony so he found one at the store. We also purchased keys holder, pots and pans rail and tools set. Actually, my handyman husband got himself a power drill a few months back so you could say that he is into drilling at the moment. I let him play with his toy as long as the house is in one piece.

That evening we drove to Kuala Pilah visiting Abi’s maternal grandmother. There was a joint birthday celebration of my husband’s baby sister, two aunties and two uncles. Hopefully, everybody was happy with their gifts just as we were getting and wrapping them.

Monday and it was big boy’s play time! Abi planned to hang the keys holder, pots and pans rail as well as our wedding portrait on the walls. So if my husband had a drilling mission to complete, I took the chance to do the laundry and tidy up the apartment instead.

That night we went out to dinner at The Loaf to celebrate a special occasion. I ordered roast chicken breast and Abi grain-fed beef tenderloin. As usual, we could not wait for their butter rolls to arrive as they were delectable. Dinner was delightful and different in a good way. After dinner we had coffee at a kopitiam on our way home. Did I tell? Mom- and sister-in-law were coming over and would be spending the night at our place. We made a move as soon as we finished up our drinks so we could get ready to greet our guests.Everyone woke up late on Tuesday morning as we stayed a bit late watching TV. I went for a quick dip in the swimming pool with Abi and his sister. By midday, we came out from the pool and prepared to help mom-in-law with lunch.

She was cooking us her famous mee mama or mom’s noodle, yay! I tried keeping minimum trouble in the kitchen but the ceramic tray broke anyway. Thank God for delicious lunch, though. Once gaining their much needed energy through short napping on a full tummy, everybody left our house before nightfall.

Wednesday was here at last but still many things needed to be done. My husband and I rushed to the Immigration Department office to renew his passport. Next, we had lunch at YO! Sushi. Then, we went to four banks to settle financial matters before bumping into my closest friend, literally, because she works in the same area with our apartment. I invited her over for a chat.

After having early dinner by chef Abi, our university friend got back to her office. My husband packed his bag and I sent him to ERL station in Tasik Selatan. Shortly reaching home, I fell asleep and did not even realize when Abi called from Singapore. Darn…long…holiday…zzz…

Favorite drinks

Allow me to introduce my two favorite drinks.

One of my favorite drinks is called green tea soda float. It is actually iced soda water with a scoop of green tea ice-cream floating in a tall clear glass. The look is minimal but it is one heck of a thirst quencher!

In addition, I do not have to order anymore dessert because the green tea ice-cream is already sufficient to satisfy my sweet tooth.

This drink is available at the Ramen Ten Restaurant. It is a halal eating place that serves different kinds of ramen noodles.

I did not know that ramen can be prepared with many sorts of flavors and still taste so good. They also come in several levels of spiciness. Once, I tried level three and was sweating all over but never fear: green tea soda float was there to rescue me.

Another favorite drink of mine is iced tea. Not just any, there is this particular one I really like.

However, when I ordered it for the first time, my heart sank as it arrived because the color was not convincing at all. I thought it was too milky.

Surprisingly, the mixture of milk and tea is well balanced. No more, no less than the other.

That is why they say never judge a book by its cover. Well, I say it is by far the perfect iced tea I have ever sipped.

So when I need a little pick-me-up, I would find the time for an iced tea at the Palma Café.

The price excluding government and service taxes: RM4 which I do not mind paying for it. The good feeling it brings after my stressful day at the office: priceless.

Frying 101

We made our way to the supermarket to buy grocery last Saturday morning as Abi had promised me that he would cook lunch that day. We bought some basic ingredients from the supermarket near our house and went home just to lie around watching TV at home waiting for lunch time.

After waking up from our afternoon nap at about 4 o’clock, my husband put on my flurry pink house slippers and entered our wet kitchen. When he was preparing the ingredients for his famous dish: fried bee hoon, I snapped some photos from another room looking into the kitchen yard.

Abi appeared confident wearing his sex hair as he began to fix us late lunch. Oh I cannot wait to eat the food he was going to put on our table.

Now look at that muscle working! At this point my husband could not care about what was going on around him because if he was not careful, he might burn his precious cuisine. Watching him stir frying the noodle, I knew that he tried hard never to screw this one up.

Unfortunately, I totally forgot to take a picture of the best fried bee hoon in KL I ever tasted! It was because I was too busy eating and complimenting Abi on his cooking success. Of course this was not his first time frying bee hoon but I love it the best last weekend, seriously. It was flavorful as the chef was so generous to put in eggs, fish balls and veggie into his specialty.

So that was lunch: healthy, light and I believe each strand of noodle was a labor of love.

Night walk

It was public holiday in Singapore. I cooked lunch for the two of us: gulai lemak tenggiri fish, fried chye sim with fishball, cucumber salad with sambal cinchalok. I must say lunch was heavenly, especially when I was the chef and Abi was the only patron!

In the evening, my husband and I went out for early dinner at the Swensen’s in Orchard Road. Then we took a long walk and some pictures. The area was especially crowded with people that night. There were a number of events held in conjunction of Christmas celebration in Singapore.

Not only there was road closing concerts but passersby were also invited to join line dancing on the street. I did not take part though simply because I have two left feet. While I am always impressed by those who could show cool moves, I decide that dancing is not something I am good at. It is never my talent.

Abi and I headed home when we were tired of walking and trying to avoid from bumping into other people, literally. Going out to town on a public holiday in Singapore was an adventure for us. We might do it again, just maybe not in the near future.
